From Singapore to Indonesia

Today we woke up for the last day in Singapore and headed to the airport right after breakfast.  It was another balmy day and we were looking forward to the cooler weather in the "dry" season of Bali (it is the rainy season in Singapore right now, which is one degree from the equator).  We were flying AirAsia - the budget airline of southeast Asia so we had some luggage shuffling to do, especially since my new rug wasn't exactly light.  It was also wrapped up like 8 kilos of drugs, more on that later. So once we got to the airport and realized that as a group we were over by 10 kg, we had to pay $30 singapore dollars for each kilo over. Interestingly enough we were actually 20.2 kilos over, which would have been the equivalent of $440 of excess baggage, but somehow the wheels werent on the scale and it only showed up as 10kg.  Thank you god of the scales!

Singapore airport is absolutely beautiful, with spacious waiting areas and shopping.  We got some very fancy coffee and headed to our gate.  The bathrooms were over the top, with a built-in bidet and hiny dryer too!  Our carry-ons were limited to 7kg so you can imagine what I looked like wearing my neck pillow, sweatshirt, hat, and fanny pack in case they weighed my backpack.

Fancy bathroom!

The flight was 3 short hours to Denpasar Airport in Bali, but it took us quite some time to get through customs because of my suspicious package.  I mean, the amount of times I saw “Locked Up Abroad” should have been a red flag when he was wrapping it up yesterday.  So after the extra screening and emptying of luggage, we were on our way to the villa.  It was a 35 minute drive through a bustling city with lots of motorbikes dashing around, but we got here to Anjali Villas in time to hang out for a bit before dinner.

Our house is awesome, a 3-bedroom with a pool in the courtyard and lounging areas on the first and second floors.  It is a wonderful tropical getaway!  We have our own chef, Suchi, who made a wonderful chicken curry and rice dinner with fried bananas for dessert.  Cheers to finally making it here after so long!  I will definitely be in the pool every day that we are here, it is the most relaxing place in the house!  Getting up early tomorrow for our tour of South Bali so I will cut it short for today.
